When your loved one heads off to Basic Combat Training (BCT), having the right pair of running shoes can make a world of difference in their comfort and performance. While the Army does provide standard-issue running shoes, many trainees benefit from wearing their own. Often, they are allowed to wear personal running shoes during training as long as they meet Army standards. An athletic trainer typically checks to ensure the shoes are suitable for running. As a family member or friend, you can help by ordering a high-quality pair of running shoes and having them sent directly to their training location. This thoughtful gesture ensures they have footwear that fits well and provides the necessary support.
Many trainees find that the standard-issue running shoes don’t always meet their comfort or performance needs. If your loved one has mentioned any discomfort with their issued shoes, sending a pair of well-fitted running shoes can make all the difference. A helpful tip is to send newer running shoes that will not only fit better but also save space in their luggage. Wearing these shoes upon arrival at BCT ensures they’re ready to hit the ground running—literally.
1) Brooks Men’s Adrenaline GTS 23 Supportive Running Shoe

This running shoe is good to help avoid injuries, and comes in many neutral colors to stay safe.
2) New Balance Men’s 520 V8 Running Shoe

This running shoe is a versatile choice. It’s not the best, but it is cost effective. If you want to avoid paying hundreds of dollars for very specialized shoes, this might be a decent choice.
3) Brooks Men’s Ghost 15 Neutral Running Shoe

This third choice is yet another Brooks brand shoe. Brooks was a very popular choice when I went to basic; and tended to last all the way from BCT through AIT.
4) ON Men’s Low-Top Sneaker

On Cloud was my choice at basic, as well as many others. They lasted and did the job.
5) Under armour mens surge running shoe

Under Armour is another good choice if you’re on a budget, and want a shoe with a recognized brand. I didn’t see a lot of these at basic personally, but they are a decent option.
Sending your loved one their own pair of running shoes is a smart way to ensure they’re comfortable and ready for the physical demands of BCT.
