For many new soldiers, attending religious services during Army Basic Combat Training (BCT) becomes one of the most grounding parts of the entire experience. Whether you’re deeply religious, casually spiritual, or just looking for a moment of calm in a high-stress environment, services offer a break from the intensity of training
Yes, You’re Allowed to Attend. No Special Permission Needed
The Army strongly supports religious accommodation, and attending weekly services is built into the BCT schedule. Drill sergeants don’t just allow it they expect it. On Sundays, you’ll usually see groups separated by religious preference:
- Protestant
- Catholic
- LDS
- Baptist
- Jewish
- Muslim
- Buddhist
- General Christian / Contemporary
- Non-denominational services
The exact offerings depend on the installation, but almost every soldier can find a service that fits their beliefs.
Some soldiers even attend a different service every weekend and find a religion that suits them. It’s rare but there tends to be 1 or 2 in every company.
